Will a dui prevent me from getting a permit?

The State of Utah will not issue a Concealed Firearm Permit if you have any alcohol related traffic offense in the last ten years.  In Oregon the law is a bit different.  You can NOT get a Concealed Carry Permit if you were convicted of a misdemeanor in the last four years.  A DUII is a misdemeanor in Oregon if you have not had multiple offenses in a period of years.

What Would Keep Me From Getting Concealed Carry Permit

The biggest obstacles to getting a permit is a criminal record.  The Utah application has a series of questions about your eligibility.  If you answer yes to any of these questions, you should contact the State of Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification at 801-965-4445 and get clarification.

Do I have to pass a test for the course

The courses do not require you to pass a test in order to receive certification.  The only reason that you would fail a course is if you repeatedly and consistently failed to observe firearm safety rules.  There is a shooting challenge in the First Steps Pistol and Basic Pistol class.  If you pass that shooting test, you will earn a Winchester/NRA marksmanship award.

Do I need my own gun

You do not have to own a pistol to take any of our classes.  We have a variety of pistols for you to use in class.  You should hold off on purchasing a pistol until you know which firearm will serve your purpose the best.
